The design
The jersey is mostly red and features subtle white pinstripes running down the body. It showcases a red and white design on both the collar and the sleeves, alongside the iconic three stripes running across the shoulders. adidas completes the retro look by using its classic Trefoil branding stitched on the right chest, while a vintage club emblem sits on the left.
The story
This design recreates the look from the 1981/82 season, which marked the beginning of the club's original partnership with adidas. Famously worn by Bernd Cullmann in the early eighties, a reissued version was later used in the mid-2000s by his son, Carsten Cullmann. The style remains particularly popular with younger supporters who associate it with Christoph Daum's promotion-winning team in the 2007/08 campaign.
The launch
Released alongside a wider retro-inspired lifestyle collection, the kit is sold with custom vintage-style lettering options for player names and numbers. The release represents a collaborative effort to merge generational support under a single, iconic aesthetic.
