The design
PUMA's design for the 2022 Italy home shirt splits the classic blue canvas into tonal quarters. This unique layout pays homage to four decades of legendary Italian football triumphs, specifically celebrating the World Cup-winning sides of 1934, 1938, 1982, and 2006. Golden accents and retro typography enrich the look, striking a balance between vintage aesthetics and contemporary sportswear design.
The details
The jersey was released in two functional builds. The player-issue authentic version utilises PUMA's ultra-lightweight ULTRAWEAVE fabric and sweat-wicking dryCELL technology for optimal on-pitch performance. Meanwhile, the replica variant is constructed entirely from recycled polyester, ensuring comfort and sustainable performance for supporters.
The launch
The kit officially debuted on 1 June 2022 during the Finalissima match against Argentina at Wembley Stadium. This high-profile fixture also marked the final international appearance of veteran captain Giorgio Chiellini, who bid farewell to the Azzurri while wearing the new design.
