The design
The shirt updates a historic style by shifting the traditional vertical stripes into an angled layout. This diagonal pattern is a visual salute to the three rivers represented on the Manchester City club crest.
The story
This away strip pays homage to the legendary 1969 alternate kit designed by Malcolm Allison. That classic color scheme was worn during a highly successful era for the club, including triumphs in the 1969 FA Cup Final, followed by the League Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup finals in 1970.
The launch
To mark the release, members of the squad visited the NASA Space Center in Houston during their pre-season tour. The launch date coincided with the anniversary of the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing, which shared its debut year with City's very first red and black away strip.
