Home Shirt 2020/21
The design
The jersey features a distinctive mosaic pattern that mirrors the cracked-tile aesthetic of street art. Rendered in the club's traditional sky blue shade, the design integrates white tonal divisions to mimic grout lines. Navy blue accents outline the collar and complete the trim, adding a touch of dark contrast to the bright kit.
The story
This design serves as a tribute to Manchester's cultural identity, taking direct inspiration from the public mosaics found throughout the creative Northern Quarter district. Mosaics have also played a historic role in Manchester City’s identity, dating back nearly a century to the original gate artwork at Maine Road. For this project, PUMA drew inspiration from local artist Mark Kennedy, who is responsible for both the Northern Quarter's famous street installations and the modern player portraits displayed at the City Football Academy.
The launch
Unveiled on July 16, 2020, the home kit was quickly thrust into action. It made its official competitive debut on the pitch just two days later, during Manchester City's FA Cup semi-final fixture against Arsenal.
